After the resounding success of our Professional, Industrial, and Applied Physics symposium in 2019, the CAP is continuing the professional development symposium series for a second year. Join your professional, industrial or commercially employed colleagues for a day of talks and workshops tailored to create a welcoming atmosphere to non-academic physicists.
Graduate Students Take Notice — the CAP is also offering additional professional development opportunities during Congress for graduate students looking to enter the job market; see details below.
TUES, JUNE 9th Symposium Day (8:30-16:45)
Industrial, Professional, and Applied Physics Symposium (throughout the day)
NOTE: Abstracts are currently being accepted for consideration for this symposium day
Deadline March 1, 2020
Join other professional, industrial or commercially employed physicists for a day focussed on networking and professional development.
Come listen to invited speakers talk about their experience and careers in non-academic fields. This is a perfect chance to explore different physics careers that may be of interest to you!
Lunch (12:00-13:30): Commercial Physics Panel
Sit in on our industrial and professional development panel!
Lunch for student attendees is on us – i.e. FREE. Enjoy meeting your national cohort while we provide you with an up close insight into a physics career outside academia.
Poster Session (13:30 -15:00)
Join in on the fun and stop by the poster session to keep up-to-date on the latest research. Visit with students who have entered the best student poster competition and see the posters of those selected as finalists; the winners will be announced during the Thursday afternoon Student Award Ceremony.
Evening (18:15-20:00): Meet and Mingle with Professional, Industrial and Commercial Physicists
The event will start with a short 10 min talk by the CAP Director of Professional Affairs on the impact and changes that are in the works to increase the awareness and impact of the CAP’s professional certification program (P.Phys).
The evening will continue with a short talk by our key sponsor for the evening, focusing on your possibilities as an industrial or commercially employed physicist.
Spend the remainder of the evening networking at the event with beer (to be confirmed), hors d’oeuvres, and an opportunity to make connections you keep for a lifetime.
Additional Professional Development for Graduate Students
CAP is offering these additional professional development opportunities during Congress for graduate students looking to enter the job market.
