Where to Eat

The following is a list of establishments that come recommended by our Local Organizing Commitee (LOC) both on-and-off SFU campus.

On SFU Campus:

SFU Burnaby Campus has many dining options, visit SFU Dining Services for dining locations and hours of operation; this information can also be found with the SFU Snap App.

SFU Dining Hall is open from 7am-10pm daily.

The following is a list of our favourite non-SFU dining options on campus.

Gawon Korean Restaurant Maggie Benston Center Food Court Really excellent customer service from this “mom & pop” business
Renaissance Coffee  North Academic Quadrangle $5 lunch deal of samosas and chana masala.  One of the best bang-for-buck vegetarian meals. There are two locations on campus.
Steve’s Poke Bar 8931 Cornerstone Mews Signature Hawaiian comfort food.
The Chopped Leaf 9055 University High Street Good, healthy option.
Togo Sushi 9055 University high Street The quality of food is amazing, and bento boxes have generous portions.
Uncle Fatih’s Pizza 9055 University High Street Fast and cheap.


In Burnaby:

Christos Greek Taverna 4624 Hastings Street Classic Greek food.
Cozmos Cafe + Bistro 6691 Hastings Street Family owned. Greek and Western food cooked to order. Easy access from SFU.
Romana Pizza 4660 Hastings Street Good Greek food, not just pizza.  Easy access from SFU.
Sushi Bar Kilala 4749 Hastings Street Small “mom-and-pop” shop.  Small menu, but generous amounts of fish per roll and affordable.  Opening hours can be a bit unpredictable.
 Sushi Town 5935 Hastings Street Great place for cheap but good sushi.  5min car ride from SFU campus.
 Thai Cafe  4160 Hastings Street  Good Thai food, and inexpensive.  Easily accessible by transit from SFU campus.
 The Pear Tree  4120 Hastings Street  Upscale and fine dining experience.
 White Spot  6500 Hastings Street Western-Canadian chain restaurant with moderate prices.
Dageraad Brewing  3191 Thunderbird Crescent, #114  Local craft brewery specializing in Belgian-style beers.
Hop and Vine Tap House 1601 Burnwood Dr, #9 Lots of craft beer and large portions.  Great spinach dip and pizza.


In Coquitlam:

Hanamori Sushi 511 Rochester Avenue For people who want to taste authentic Japanese.  It’s a small place right next to the Executive Plaza Hotel, kind of hidden.  Quality of sushi is great.
The Golden Boot 1028 Ridgeway Avenue Italian café with homemade pastas, pizzas, and desserts.
White Spot 4075 North Road Western-Canadian chain restaurant with moderate prices.
Lougheed Village Town Pub 9304 Salish Court A Physics Grad Student favourite place to eat and drink near Lougheed Skytrain Station.


In Port Moody:

Salmon and Bannock 1128 W Broadway, #7 Vancouver’s only First Nations restaurant. Great West Coast seafood.  Mains in the $20-$30 range.
Salmon House on the Hill 2229 Folkestone Way Technically in Westvan, and not easy to get to by transit.
Tacofino Taco Bar 15 W Cordova Street Unique to the West Coast, can sit to eat or order food to-go.
Tangent Café 2095 Commercial Drive Cozy, lots of beer, great brunch, within walking distance of the Commercial Broadway Skytrain Station.
Tap & Barrel 1 Athletes Way Moderately pricey, science nerds will love their Empress Gin & Tonic Cocktail.
Tojos 1133 W Broadway Japanese Cuisine, pricey, but could be a destination for some.

Craft Beer Market 85 W 1st Avenue One of the largest selection of Beer on tap in Vancouver, pub food, recommend getting there early to get seating, within walking distance of the Main Street-Science World Skytrain Station.
Steamworks 375 Water Street Craft Brewery, great food, easily accessible by transit. Located in historical Gastown, right across from Waterfront Skytrain Station.
Storm Crow Tavern 1305 Commercial Drive Calling all Star Trek, GOT, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Firefly, Doctor Who, etc. fans! Board games, quirky drinks, pub food, what’s not to love? Within walking distance of the Commercial Broadway Skytrain Station, get there early to get a seat.
