Markets
Fredericton also has several markets, open at different times throughout the week. Among them are the Garrison Night Market, which runs every Thursday evening from June to September, and the Boyce Farmer’s Market, a Fredericton landmark, open every Saturday morning.
Art
Fredericton is a great place to visit for those who enjoy art. The Beaverbrook Art Gallery, downtown by the river, has an internationally renowned collection, including several paintings by Salvador Dali. The gallery also has a café and a gift shop.
Just across the street is the Fredericton Playhouse. During the week of the CAP Congress there will be two shows at the Playhouse: ABRA Cadabra – A Tribute to the Music and Magic of ABBA and Rumours Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute.
Additionally, the Fredericton Region has many different artisan shops, and other shops, that art enthusiasts will appreciate.
Science East
Come visit New Brunswick’s most active public science and technology organization, Science East. This registered charity works both in the school system and with the public to provide educational activities for students, teachers and professionals, and the general public. Its Science Centre, located downtown, offers a wide variety of science demonstrations, with reduced admission rates for students.
Multi-use trails and Walking Bridge
The Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge, previously the Fredericton Railway Bridge, is an iconic part of the City of Fredericton. It spans the Wolastoq (Saint John), serving as a link between the north and south sides of the city. It is conveniently located near many attractions, such as the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Fredericton Playhouse, and the Picaroons Roundhouse on the other side of the river.
Fredericton is a great destination for cycling, with over 115 km of multi-use trails on both sides of the Wolastoq (Saint John) and Nashwaaksis rivers. The Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge is an important part of Fredericton’s trail system, connecting the trails on either side of the Wolastoq (Saint John) river.
Rentals
There are several places in Fredericton that rent bicycles and electric scooters to visitors who wish to explore Fredericton’s trails, including the Radical Edge, Savage’s Bicycle Centre, Cruze Scooters and Second Nature Outdoors. If you prefer to explore the river by boat, Second Nature Outdoors offers canoe, kayak and paddleboard rentals.
Parks and outdoor spaces

O’Dell Park: Fredericton’s 400-acre Odell Park is renowned as one of the most beautiful parks of its kind in Canada. Among the many distinguishing features are a duck pond, arboretum, and botanic garden. Here, amid woodlands and fields that once formed Reverend Jonathan Odell’s estate, people find space to play and commune with nature in all seasons. The park is also home to the Odell Park Lodge, which is available for community use.
Killarney Lake Park: This picturesque park has supervised freshwater swimming, a sandy beach, washrooms and change rooms. It features approximately 30 km of walking trails around the lake with connections to additional trails.
Mactaquac Provincial Park: Mactaquac Provincial Park is a broad woodland and recreation complex along the scenic Saint John River in New Brunswick. You’ll find a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year in this riverside playground. Discover the beauty of this 525-ha (1,300-acre) masterpiece along one of the many walking trails (one of which is wheelchair accessible), and enjoy interpretive walks through the pristine beaver pond nature reserve.
