Lloyd G. Elliott University Prize Exam

The University Prize exam will not be offered in 2024. It will be run again in March 2025 with both an exam for 1st year undergraduates and an exam for undergraduates in their 2nd year or beyond. Plans are under development to offer online or hybrid training sessions once a month beginning in September. Any member who is interested in being part of the National Exam Committee can send a message to programs@cap.ca.

The 2023 exam was held on Saturday, March 18th (Eastern time).  Students were able to start the open-book exam at any time that day up until 23h30 ET; once started, they had 3 hours to complete.  The results are not yet available due to reasons beyond the control of the CAP Office. Once they are available, this webpage will be updated.

The CAP University Prize Examination, normally held in February or March of each year, is a national competition open to students across the country who are studying physics and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of the examination. All eligible students are encouraged to participate.

This prize exam is funded solely on charitable donations from CAP members, friends, and supporters.  In 2022, the CAP Foundation provided the following prizes*:

  • First prize, the Lloyd G. Elliott Prize – $500
  • Second prize – $300
  • Third prize – $200

Donations to support the work of the CAP Foundation are always welcome and tax receipts are issued.

*Prizes must be claimed within two (2) years of their issuance.
