Professor Ian Affleck (Department of Physics, University of British Columbia) has been awarded the 2012 Lars Onsager prize from the American Physical Society, for “developing and applying the ideas and methods of conformal field theory to important problems in statistical and condensed matter physics …” Ian graduated from Trent University in 1975, and obtained his PhD from Harvard in 1979.
