Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity are foundational values of the CAP. The CAP defines these values as:
- 1. Excellence in physics is built on the diversity of ideas and people.
- 2. All members of the CAP will work together to build a culture of inclusion and maintain an environment free from harassment, discrimination, and workplace violence.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment where all are welcomed and treated with dignity and respect.
We will work to address systemic barriers and biases so that all individuals and groups have equal opportunities to participate and contribute to the physics community.
The CAP acknowledges the body of evidence that demonstrates inherent and implicit bias in various aspects of awards processes. The CAP has been working on reviewing and updating recognition processes to ensure they are designed with principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in mind. Furthermore, the CAP commits to ensuring that those evaluating awards will have a thorough understanding of the impact of bias to take it into account while reviewing nominations.
