Travelling to London

London Airport (YXU)

Air Canada and WestJet provide air service from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal to London
International Airport.

  • Transport to and from the London Airport must be done by Taxi or Uber/Lyft. Taxi to or from the airport (one way) will cost $35-$40 per trip.
  • Note: Robert Q Bus does not travel from the London Airport to the Western campus.

Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

Toronto Pearson International Airport, one of the largest airports in Canada and a hub for many flights and airlines, is a 2-hour drive (180 km) to London via Highway 401.

  • Flixbus, Onex bus provides direct bus services from YYZ Airport to London.
  • Robert Q provides direct shuttle services from YYZ Airport to London.

Detroit Metro Airport (DTW)

Another Airport close to London (2h30’ drive, 225 km) is the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. As this airport is located in the United States, delegates are advised to check their travel and visa requirements prior to booking their flights to this destination.

  • Megabus and Flixbus provide services from Detroit bus station to London.
  • Robert Q provides direct shuttle services from DTW Airport to London.

Train services to London (Downtown)

Via Rail provides several train services per day to London

Bus services to London (Downtown or Western campus)

There are several bus companies that provide transportation from Detroit, Toronto, and some other cities in Southwestern Ontario (such as Kitchener/Waterloo and Windsor) to London. Some of these buses also stop at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Tickets can be pre-purchased online:

Onex Bus: https://onexbus.com/

Raider Express: https://riderexpress.ca/

Flixbus: https://www.flixbus.ca/

Megabus: https://ca.megabus.com/

Most of the buses have a stop in Downtown London and one on Western Campus. Make sure to ask for the correct destination.

Robert Q: www.robertq.com offers dedicated shuttle transportation to London from YYZ and DTW airports, with the possibility to be shuttled to/from your London address of choice (also Western campus and residences)

Please refer to their websites for accessibility policies.

On-site transportation (Downtown London to Western campus)

City buses (LTC, “London Transit”)

A London Transit bus pass for the duration of the Congress will be available to delegates upon onsite registration along with their badge.

London Transportation Commission (LTC, “London Transit”) has an online map that shows their bus schedules in real-time: https://realtime.londontransit.ca/

City bus routes can be found at: https://www.londontransit.ca/plan-a-trip/routes-schedules/

LTC is committed to providing accessible public transit services (including specialized transit services consistent with AODA requirements). Information regarding LTC accessibility services can be found on https://www.londontransit.ca/accessibility/

There are no city bus stops at the London Via Rail station. However, there are several bus stops in a walking distance. Bus Stops near Via Rail (downtown) with buses to Western campus are:

  • 1490 @ Richmond at King NB: route13 (stops at Delaware Hall), 6 (stops at Natural Science Centre), 90 Express (stops at Main Campus Gates)
  • 2737 @ Queens at Richmond WB: route 2 (stops at Natural Science Centre), 9 (stops at Sarnia Rd.), 94 Express (stops at Natural Science Centre)

City bus service to/from London Airport (route 36) is M-F only and impractical.

Due to construction, some of the city buses might be on detour so please confirm the bus stops and routes. Google Maps information on buses and bus stops (see above) is relatively well maintained and can be trusted most of the time.

The major LTC bus stop on Western Campus is situated at the Natural Science Centre (NSC) in front of the Physics & Astronomy Building (PAB) and near the Social Science Centre (SSC), where the Congress primarily takes place.

Uber and Lyft

Both Uber and Lyft are now available in London. So, if you are considering using them, please make sure to have their app installed on your mobile phone. Both companies offer services for customers in need of special accessibility (e.g., UberWAV).

Taxis

Please refer to their websites for accessibility policies.

Parking

On-campus Parking at Western

  • If you have reserved accommodations at Western residences (Perth Hall or Ontario Hall) your confirmation email explains detailed parking instructions for your residence building address and location and your parking pass at that location. Parking is only included with the overnight accommodations rate for those staying at Western residences.
  • Those commuting to Western for the day should consider consulting visitor parking rates and sites. We recommend that delegates park in the Medway lot and walk up to the Physics and Astronomy and other conference buildings (10 min walk). A map of available parking spaces on the Western campus can be found here.

Hotel Parking

All three recommended hotels (The Park, Residence Inn, and Delta Armouries) are offering parking for a fee.
